a list
1) This blog is funny - http://crappypictures.com/

2) I think the use of the phrase "offending garment" is overused in fanfiction. Not in any particular fandom, but in all of them.

3) I had a dream last night that I was running with Bob Harper, the trainer from The Biggest Loser. Except I wasn't running exactly, but flying because my feet weren't touching the ground. Flying dreams are the best. Raise your hand if you want Kim to win tomorrow night!

4) I want to talk about original fiction vs. fanfiction. If someone writes a story that has absolutely nothing to do with the characters or plot of a TV show except that the characters in the story have the same names as the characters on the show and their physical descriptions match those of the actors who play them, is that fanfiction or should it just be called original fiction? I started thinking about this because of Fifty Shades of Grey, which is being sold as original fiction, but apparently started out as Twilight fanfiction, but based on the plot descriptions I've read seems like one of those original fiction pieces that may have started out being called fanfiction because it featured two characters named Edward and Bella who looked like Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, but really was just original fiction all along. The use of the names and physical descriptions of people from favorite TV shows just seems like a crutch for authors who aren't ready to create their own characters from scratch yet (and who want people who read their true fanfiction to have a reason to try their original fiction).

5) I'm rereading this fic today because it's really interesting - The Word of Us by surevesta on LJ. I would honestly recommend this story to anybody on my flist. It's like the "fanfiction" mentioned above in that all it has to do with the Supernatural fandom is the fact that the characters are named Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles (the actors who play Sam and Dean on the show, not that that's in any way relevant to the fic whatsoever) and they are described as looking like those actors and they have the same siblings and are from the same hometowns as those actors. Other than that, it's original fiction. Oh and there are a host of other characters who have names (only first names are ever mentioned for them) that I think mean in the author's mind they look like various other actors who may or may not be real life friends with the real Jared and Jensen, but I'm not really sure who most of them are and (again) it's totally irrelevant to the story. So anyway... it's about homophobia and it's set in a world exactly like ours except that people mate, which sounds weird but "mate" in the story basically just means that when you find your soulmate you know the instant your eyes meet for the first time and it's like you got hit with sex pollen and you've got to do it immediately. It's got a bit of a science fiction vibe kinda, but not really. It's mostly a completely recognizable world with just this one difference. And the homophobia comes from the Church (and a clever Bible-esqe text the author created called The Word) that says, of course, that there are no same-sex mates and anyone saying there are is a blasphemer. It's a really cool story. Moving and thought provoking and really crazy hot too. It's just under 55,000 words and I couldn't put it down the first time I read it, so be prepared.

Supernatural daemon!fics
Daemon!fics are one of my very favorite types of fics. Daemons are a concept from Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy. If you haven't read the trilogy, you can read a bit about the idea of daemons and how they work here on wikipedia.

So this is a little project I've been working on :) It's a complete list of all the Supernatural/His Dark Materials crossover fics (aka daemon!fics) that I know of. I've listed them alphabetically by author and included this info for each fic:

Title
Author
* Characters - For example, if I put "Dean:Alice!wolf" it means that Dean's daemon is named Alice and she is a wolf in this particular story.
* Notes - Pairing, genre, summary etc... just a little something to let you know what the fic is about.

If you know of any Supernatural daemon!fics that I missed, please let me know!

teevee
The list of shows I'm currently keeping up with is absurdly long (and longer than it's been in years... possibly ever):

* Supernatural (new episode on Friday! Finally!)
* The Challenge: Battle of the Exes (a true guilty pleasure)
* Smash (I watched it tonight, which prompted this post)
* Project Runway: All-Stars (I never thought I'd say it, but I seriously miss Heidi! And Tim Gunn, but that goes without saying.)
* The Biggest Loser (I watch with my sister)
* The Walking Dead (so freaking good!)
* Awake (only 2 episodes have aired, but I really like it)
* Touch (only 1 episode has aired, but I'm excited for the next one)

Out of curiosity, what multi-season shows have you watched every single episode of? It doesn't have to be when it was airing, just the ones that you've actually seen every episode from every season. I've watched all of QAF, The West Wing, Roswell, and now Supernatural, but I think that's it.

ETA: I've also seen all of Project Runway. And every season of the Real World/Road Rules challenge shows (The Duel, Fresh Meat, Battle of the Sexes, etc. etc. etc.)

Anyway, it's an outsider POV story (I always was a sucker for those) about Sam at Stanford. And it's great :)

the dingo ate my baby
I love when stuff like this happens!

Until a few weeks ago when I read this articleI had never heard of the case in Australia where a woman said a dingo took her baby. I'd never consciously known or heard the pop-culture phrase "A dingo ate my baby!" that arose from it. So tonight I'm rewatching an episode of Supernatural (Mystery Spot, for those who care) and Dean says, "Look I'm just saying that it's crazy, I mean even for us it's crazy, like 'dingo ate my baby' crazy." Last time I watched this it was just something Dean said, but now I get it!

And since I'm all about QAF lately I can't just suddenly post something ONLY about Supernatural, so... this is like that time when I finally noticed a super obvious literary reference in an episode of QAF :)

hmm, I still haven't uploaded any Supernatural icons... I shall use this one instead. Even though it makes me want ice cream. Mmmm mint chocolate chip...

omg TEH LOVE, it's got me!
[info]not_yet_defined's been posting all sorts of fun QAF stuff lately and [info]jule1122 has been reposting drabbles and they have inspired me! They've made Brian and Justin pop up on my flist every day again, so those boys have gotten into my head :) It's really nice to see them again. I missed their making out and their pretty hair and TEH LOVE. NY was playing with Tweak and he said all of the QAF quotes below and I thought it would be fun to watch each of those scenes again :) Please join me? And then post or repost something about QAF? It'll be like old times!

"Go ahead. Put it on me." - skip to 7:30 to hear the line... which isn't the same word-for-word as what Tweak said, but who's listening to Brian anyway? He's naked and has Justin's legs on his shoulders!

"No apologies. No regrets." - Sadly I can't find a video of this exact quote... except in Portuguese maybe?

"Are you wearing a toolbelt of love?" - *giggles* Not canonical, but as NY says, it's fun to think that it is :)

"It was love to me." - LOVE THIS!!!

"I don't believe in love." - Yup, keep telling that to yourself Brian, ha.

"I like candied walnuts." - Also not canonical :)

"What? And YOU'RE so smart?" - Such a great scene from one of the very. best. episodes. EVER!!!

"...Then you mean it." - omg *melts* Come on now, squee with me! Goodness, this is the most amazing moment ever. They are so crazy in love and Brian is admitting it. He wants to be with Justin for the rest of his life. Gah, so beautiful I just teared up!!

and

"Parts Department" - I can't seem to find a video of this line either, but still, bahahahahaha :D

I was just reading a fic and the characters were getting stuff out of the refrigerator to make sandwiches and as I kept reading I had this weird sensation in my right arm and a bizarre, unsettled feeling. Then I realized that the author hadn't written that they closed the fridge and moved over to the table, so me and my ridiculous OCD/environmentally conscious mind were itching to close the door to the fridge so they didn't waste electricity.

Rec-a-thon!!!!!
I am so ridiculously excited for ny's Thanksgiving rec-a-thon!! Having wandered away from the QAF fandom for awhile, it's really fun to jump back into my bookmarks and memories and find fun recs to share. And of course I'm looking forward to checking out everybody's recs!

QAF Past - Untitled drabble by [info]flashfly... Published on LJ on 9/6/07, I saved it in my memories as "alfresco shower" :) Enjoy!

QAF Present - Remembering, a drabble by [info]britin1729, published on IJ on 4/14/11... it's amazing what talented writers can do with just 100 words.

QAF History - This highly amusing post by [info]notreallyme10 on IJ *LOL*

Other Fandoms - I realized when picking my QAF recs that Brian/Justin fics that used to move me (or turn me on) no longer did, but if the writing was great, then I still loved the fic. I think truly incredible writing can (and should) be enjoyed by anyone, whether or not the fandom or characters match their current obsessions. So the Supernatural fic I'm offering up is short (about 550 words) and heartbreaking and does not require knowledge beyond this - John is Sam and Dean's father. Mary was their mother. She was killed by a demon. John took his sons on the road to hunt the demon down - Lullabies by theskywasblue on Dreamwidth.

I like how when two of my friends on facebook share the same link to a youtube video or news article it shows me both posts together. It shows me fun pairings of my friends from different parts of my life... like this Jimmy Kimmel video of parents telling their kids they're sorry, but they ate all their Halloween candy. It was shared by a random friend from college and a girl I used to work with and somehow, those two people would never have been connected in any way in my head, but it sort of fits that they both liked this particular video :)

(Note to future self if/when I ever look at this post again - The two people were DK the guy SM had a huge crush on freshman year and the girl who had your job before you at the store.)
